We are working with the 4R framework - Respect. Request. Recognize. Return. - where we ‘respect’ the origins of each pattern, ‘request’ prior permission from the communities to license their patterns for sale, ‘recognize’ and promote their cultural heritage on our platforms, and support the ‘return’ of proceeds and financial contributions from any purchases to the communities involved.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with the National Heritage Council of South Africa and Mastercard, aims to link each pattern to its indigenous community of origin.
